Tell Your Life Story
You don't have to be a war hero or a famous movie star to have a great story to tell.
Our work always starts with an interview no matter where you are. If it's not practical for us to meet, we'll work with you by phone or video link to make it happen.
AKA uses professional writers who have been trained to have strong interviewing and interpersonal skills. They know how to draw out a story. A skilled writer will uncover stories and details that are often glossed over by families, who often think they've heard it all before. Our writers are impartial and come to your story with a fresh approach.
For example, Bill's daughter Kathy was delighted to learn about his early life when her husband arranged for his life story to be published for Kathy's 50th birthday.
We work with our subjects to produce a written account of their stories, whether that's a simple transcript of our interviews or a full book-length memoir.
I Want to Write it Myself
If you have the time and the energy, writing your memoirs can be a very satisfying project. However, sometimes you are emotionally too close to the material to be able to tell the story well, and sometimes you just get stuck and the manuscript never gets finished. We've worked with many people to rescue stories from their bottom drawers to deliver a published life story.
Having someone to work with you or coach you through the process can make a big difference. It can help you solve problems, help keep your energy up, and help you achieve the result you hoped for. We're very flexible, we'll work with you to give you just the support you need. Contact us today to take the first big step.
This Year There's One Book Everyone Will Love - Yours.
It's not who you are, but what you have to say that makes a story special. In their own words, every-day Australians from all walks of life describe those pivotal moments in their lives where, in retrospect, seemingly in an instant, everything changes. These are incredible stories of impulsive love, fantastic folly and great compassion, full or surprises and humour and sometimes unbelievable luck:
- John was a hapless suburban accountant with some country bumpkin clients who somehow managed to outfox a multinational oil corporation.
- Irina's life changed forever when her starving family traded her for a chicken on the battlefields of Europe.
- Flip was an agricultural scientist who was so shy he shook hands rather than kiss the love of his life and took on the heavy weight boxing champion of the Northern Territory to defend her honour.
- Bill was a Chinese orphan who went from Mao to God and along the way raised a family of four brilliant daughters in a one room house.
- Rena and her husband had the inspired idea of starting a nightclub in the middle of war ravaged Poland.
- Isabelle, the all too plain girl from Flackwell Heath with long, lanky legs and buck teeth who was inspired by a chance encounter with Mahatma Gandhi on a beach in India to become a writer.
. Let us know if you'd like us to help you write your story.
