Synopsis
Born in the days of rabbit plagues and unbelievable manual labour, Jim Howes is the quintessential good bloke who loves a great yarn. He and his wonderful sense of humour are a part of Australia which is slowly vanishing. Jim is the heart and soul of the South Coast of New South Wales.
He has met and worked with its great local characters and recorded and helped create its history. This was another time, another world, where the keels of ships were cut with a broadaxe, and where teenage boys eked out a living cutting, carting and carrying massive railway sleepers by the hundreds.
Forget what you read in the history books. Jim knows for a fact that one of the South Coast locals saw Japanese soldiers set foot on Australian soil, and what's more, on his beloved Kioloa Beach. Jim's world is coloured by wild bush characters and hilarious fun. Like the time someone rode a cow on to the dance floor at a party or driving with 'Gelignite' Jack Murray in the famous Redex Trials of the 1950s.
Jim's philosophy was simple and straight forward: Work hard and do the right thing. He struggled and built up a business, fell in love with Gwen, to whom he was devoted and raised a family.
